  • 2.Plumbing FAQs
  • Why is my faucet constantly dripping?

There are many reasons why your faucet may be dripping. High water pressure or broken internal plumbing components are typically the cause. We can easily and quickly fix this problem for you.

  • Why is my toilet running constantly?

A constantly running toilet is typically due to a broken or malfunctioning flush mechanism or flush valve seal. If jiggling the flush valve or handle does nothing, you may need a replacement.

  • Why is my water pressure so low?

Some reasons you have low water pressure may be because of debris buildup in the pipes, leaks in your internal plumbing system, or even problems with your municipal water supply. Our plumbers can inspect your systems to figure out the cause of your low water pressure and offer solutions.

  • How do I prevent my basement from flooding during heavy rain?

If water is entering your house through the sanitary sewer system, we can install a backwater valve that will automatically close if sewage tries to travel towards your house instead of away from it.

To keep water from getting into your house from outside rainwater, ensure gutters are installed correctly to send water to a lower area in your yard, and raise the landscaping around your home’s foundation. We can also install and repair sump pump systems to keep water from flooding your home.

  • Why is my water heater leaking?

If your water heater is leaking, it may be due to the inside steel tank rusting through. However, water connections and other parts of your plumbing system may be causing the leaks around your water heater bottom.

  • 3.Heating FAQs
  • What types of heating systems are available?

The most common types of heating systems are forced air furnaces (gas or oil), boilers, heat pumps, and direct heat (like fireplaces and space heaters). We will help you determine which heating system will be the most cost efficient for your home.

  • How do I know which heater will work best for me?

Which type of heater will work best for you depends on the layout and size of your home, as well as your heating needs. Flat Rate Home Services will evaluate your home’s needs and select the most efficient heater that works for you within your budget.

  • How can I lower my heating bills?

There are many ways you can reduce the costs of heating your home. You can lower the thermostat and use more blankets at night, especially down-filled blankets and pillows that insulate heat. Set ceiling fans on low and have them spin clockwise; this releases warm air that is trapped on the ceiling. Keep your curtains and drapes open during the day to let warmth in, and keep them closed at night to keep the heat inside.

  • How long do heaters last?

It really depends on the type of heating unit you have. Gas or oil furnaces last around 20 years and boilers can last typically around 25 years.

  • How do I know when it’s time to get a new heater installed?

There are many signs that may indicate it’s time to replace your heater. If your heater is above the recommended age, if your gas or electric bill has been going up, if your furnace turns on and off more frequently, or if your furnace looks rusty or shows signs of corrosion, you should look into getting a new furnace.

  • 4.AC FAQs
  • How often should I get maintenance on my air conditioner?

You should have your air conditioner inspected at least once a year, even if you don’t see any issues. The spring is the ideal time to get your ac unit inspected, so you can be sure it works all summer.

  • When should an air conditioner be replaced?

Air conditioning systems last about 13 - 15 years. If your system is over 10 years old or isn’t working as well as it used to, we can help you find a replacement that will best suit your home.

  • How do I know which unit is best for my home?

The air conditioning unit that is best for you is mainly dependent on the size of your home. Flat Rate Home Services will evaluate your needs and make suggestions.

  • Does the filter in my HVAC unit need to be changed?

Yes. You should check the filter every month, and change it if there are visible signs of dirt or debris.

  • 5.Drain Cleaning FAQs
  • How do I know if I need my drains cleaned?

You should have your drains cleaned if water doesn’t drain or drains too slowly, if water is backing up or if there is an unpleasant smell in your drains.

  • How can I keep my drains from getting clogged?

Avoid pouring oils or grease down the drain, keep food out (if you have a garbage disposal, don’t put food down the drain that is thick or sticky like banana peels, potato skins or noodles), pour a pot of boiling water down the drain about once per week to clear out any grease or fat, and don’t flush products that are made of heavy paper.

  • How do I know if my sewer line is clogged?

There are many ways to tell if a sewer line is clogged. If multiple drains are clogged, or if water backs up in other places when you use a plumbing fixture (ex: using the washing machine causes the toilet or shower drain to back up with water) you might have a backed up sewer line.

  • Why are tree roots getting into my sewer line?

Tree roots grow towards sources of water and oxygen. If your sewer line has a crack in it, the tree roots will detect the water and oxygen inside your line, and break through the pipes. We offer sewer line televising services to find cracks or breaks in your pipes and to see if tree roots are the cause of your plumbing issues.

  • Should I use liquid drain cleaners to unclog pipes?

No. Chemical liquid drain cleaners can cause serious damage to your pipes, and are bad for the environment. Also, if your clog is in the sewer line, the liquid cleaner won’t work. Instead, use a plunger to try to clear the clog. If that doesn’t work, we offer expert drain cleaning services.

  • 6.Remodeling FAQs
  • How much will it cost to have my bathroom remodeled?

The cost of a bathroom remodel greatly depends on the scope of the project. On average, a full bathroom remodel costs about $15,000. It can be much less depending on the materials and brands you use.

  • What should I do before the remodeling project begins?

Before remodeling, you should take a look at some designs and get a general idea of the style you are looking for. We can help guide your design process, so your dream comes to life. Also consider how much money you want to spend. Before we get started, make sure all of your personal belongings are removed.

  • Can I make a small bathroom become accessible for someone who is handicapped?

Yes. We can install accessible bathtubs, as well as grab bars in the shower and near the toilet.

  • Will remodeling my bathroom improve my home’s resale value?

Yes. Bathrooms are one of the most important rooms in a home for most buyers. If your bathroom is upgraded and has an up-to-date style, the resale value will increase.
